Finding self-love is not always an easy thing to do, but it’s worth it. Learning to love yourself without condition is a beautiful thing because no matter where you are in life or your circumstances, life can always be a beautiful experience because you love, value, and cherish you.
What Is Self-Love?
Through my own interpretation, Self-Love is loving oneself unconditionally through their flaws and all without ridicule or judgement of oneself. It’s a form of self-acceptance as well.
How Do I Find Self-Love From Within?
You find self-love from within by acknowledging your shortcomings and realizing no matter how hard you try you will never be perfect. Your flaws are what make you unique, your shortcomings can turn into your greatest strengths, and your true beauty lies from within.
Self- love is about knowing where you’ve been, accepting who that person was, who you are now, and what you can become in the future. One technique to being able to tap into self-love is looking yourself into the mirror each morning, seeing what you don’t like and yourself whether that be your appearance, your physique, your accent, or your hair and combating those negative thoughts with a positive one. Example, say you look yourself in the mirror and you start off with saying you don’t like your hair, combat that thought by something positive you like about your hair out loud like “I love my curls”, “I love the way I can style my hair”, and “I love how my hair compliments me and my complexion.” By constantly doing this, slowly you’ll start to feel more confident about yourself and you will start appreciating how you look and feel, this will encourage self-love over time.
Another technique is learning to be gentle with yourself. You are not a machine, when your body is telling you need something acknowledge it and respect it the way you would want someone else to. For instance, if you feel your body is telling you to rest, provide a time whether that be 30 minutes or more and allow yourself to rest without interruption or distractions. Feel your body slip into relaxation and comfort and enjoy the ambiance.
Does Self-Love Look Different For Everyone?
Yes. Self-love looks different for everyone. It could be a change in style, the people you hang around, the places you would normally go to or attend, or simply how you feel about people and yourself are all ways you might change when you increase love of self. Some people might be offended by it but it’s about how you feel and what makes you feel comfortable, and you are not necessarily responsible for someone else’s comfort, they are. An increase in self love can also boost confidence and self-esteem, making you appreciate yourself and walking into the world with courage and new life. Don’t be afraid to change.
Overall, self-love is the betterment of oneself. It’s about bringing yourself closer to you, better understanding you, your shortcomings, flaws, dark side, and knowing that despite all of that or with all of that, you are loved and cared for and you appreciate who you are. No one else is like you in the world, and that’s the beauty of self-love.
